ABOUT

INTRODUCING DAVID WALKER

Founder and Director at Fat Tone Amps

Sometimes, when you are very lucky, life can drop us a breadcrumb or two along the way, a little clue to what we are supposed to be doing with our talents.

That’s precisely what led David Walker, the Founder and Director of Fat Tone Amps, to start building his own amplifiers for harmonicas (blues harps) and turn his lifelong passions for both music and electronics into a new and successful business.

David says: “I have always had a fascination for blues, ever since I was a young boy. I have played harp all my life and have been in various bands, on and off, playing blues harp and sax, for the best part of 30 years.

...we are not an ‘off the shelf’ solution ... ours is a total design process that involves the customer in each stage of construction and final testing

It is always fun to meet someone who is so enthusiastic about what they do and has turned their love of music and expertise in engineering into producing beautiful bespoke amplifiers.

He pauses: “I studied electronics in some depth as part of my degree many moons ago and was thrilled by all the elements of it… and it is these elements that I have tried to incorporate into every bespoke amplifier we make here today.

Having been a harp player since his youth David knew that the holy grail for every player is that individual ‘tone’ or unique sound.

Continuing, David says: “Here at Fat Tone Amps we are not an ‘off the shelf’ solution – we provide a tailored and custom-build service to every client, ours is a total design process that involves the customer in each stage of construction and final testing.

Throughout the process, which can take up to three months to complete, we work face-to-face with our customer in a really committed, precise way to ensure that they can release their own true tone through the amp, adding distortions, customised reverb and tremolo and all modulated for each individual.

Like an exquisite, made to measure suit from Saville Row every Fat Tone Amp produced by David and the team chooses the best circuitry and components needed to enhance the tone and preference of the player and because of its bespoke configuration the amps are also easy to repair and adjust or add to through the company’s after care service.

A brilliant product and service
