Introducing the Fat Box – a custom designed pre-amp for Harmonica players to get a big fat tone without the need for a heavy harmonica amplifier.

We haven’t been idle during the global Coronavirus lockdown. Because we can’t have anyone at the workshop for amp consultations we have used the time wisely and taken the opportunity to develop a brand new product that will give you that Fat Tone Amps tone and crunch in a compact unit – the Fat Box pre-amp.

It’s the next best thing to a bespoke Fat Tone Amps combo because it’s hand-built by David Walker and features the same design principles, highest quality components and point-to-point wiring that you get in a Fat Tone Amps combo.

This unit has been specifically designed as a pre-amp for getting a great electric harp sound when playing through a PA, so if you can’t or don’t want to take your regular big rig to the gig / jam / open mic then this compact solution is the answer to your prayers.

The specifications:

  • Fully tube driven including a 5AR4 rectifier tube and 12AX7 pre-amp tube.
  • Full EQ control for Bass, Middle and Treble.
  • Volume control to overdrive your sound and control distortion.
  • Dimensions 7.5″ x 4.5″ x 5.5″ (19.05 x 11.43 x 13.97cm)
  • Weight 6.4lbs (2.87Kg)
  • Available as 110v or 240v input (switchable option available on request)
  • Package includes, FAT BOX, Sturdy water resistant padded carry bag with shoulder strap, Power cord (UK), Jack cable 1m in length.

“Just recently received my Fat Box from Fat Tone Amps and all I can say is that it does exactly what it says on the box, if not a little more. I’m sure we all have those gigs where space for the harp player is a final consideration after the keys and drums have utilised 70% of the stage and bass and lead guitar a further 25%. This little magic box is a great solution. Tucked in a corner or on a stool at your side with results hitting you through the monitor will make those tight venues just that bit more manageable. I’ve tried my Box with my Boss DM2 delay and it’s all you need. If you want a little reverb it can be added through the desk negating the need for a further pedal. It’s very solid and is delivered in a very high quality and useful padded carry case along with 1 metre Box to desk lead and power lead (kettle variety). Great value and high quality – first gigs coming up and I’m looking forward to trying it out in a gig situation. Great communication and assistance from Dave Walker, a very understanding, high level technician and fellow harp player.”   Rob Wilkinson, UK

“This is one great piece of kit. All that valve goodness in a solid quality build – an easy carry to a mic night or gig (comes in a neat padded shoulder bag), plenty crunch, very useful frequency controls – this little fat boy rocks! Great work Dave!” Jonny Nice, Uzbekistan
